The moon beams like gold dust on her nut brown hair
And sweet scenting the perfume she did wear.
The only sounds leaves rustling in the breeze
And boobook calling on the moonlit trees
And water lapping on bank of lake shore
The self same sounds repeated o’er and o’er.
When I went to put my arms around her she said ‘no’
There is something I will have you to know
Of late we’ve grown apart unlike before
And I don’t feel I love you anymore.
I love another no longer love you
Goodbye my erstwhile love adieu, adieu
I fought the tears my lovelorn heart did ache
As she left me there beside the moonlit lake.
I choked those tears those tears that yearned to flow
That night in April many years ago
Beside the lake in dim light of the moon
That I lost her my Rose of Bonnie Doon.
