And without their knowledge of the mountains Everest may not have been conquered yet
They are the unsung heroes and their achievements we forget.
The magnitude of the achievement of Edmund Hillary and Tenzig Norgay with the passing decades grow
But the Sherpas the unsung hero of all of those years ago
The iron men of the Himalayas the snow peaks do not fear
And they climb to Everest’s summit many times every year.
The unsung heroes of the Himalayas live life in the hard way
They are born to be climbers they climb mountains every day
With their yaks their hardy bovines in the harshest of climes they thrive
They live and seem quite happy where most would struggle to survive.
Whilst the humble and hardy Sherpa did not seek any acclaim
Hillary the Kiwi and Norgay took the glory and the fame
But they could not have reached Everest’s summit and their place in history win
Without the unsung heroes of the Himalayas the hardiest of men.
