In rural and even suburban gardens
They are what you might call a common sight.
The agapanthus are native to South Africa
Though by man they have been introduced elsewhere
And though classified as a weed now in Australia
Their flowering beauty seems beyond compare.
Some people dig agapanthus from their gardens
And others with poisons their green foliage destroy
But the agapanthus have roots that are deep and hardy
And they grow again for they do not easily die.
But some gardeners they love their agapanthus
What to one is a flower to another is a weed
And of all the plants and flowers that bloom in summer
The agapanthus one of the hardier breed.
