Of the little water world they live in safe from all fish of prey
Their lives are short when compared to ours at least ‘twould seem that way.
A goldfish has a ten second memory span by scientists we are told
And their span of time seems to be brief they soon grow weak and old
But how can even the most intelligent human being know what goes on in a fish’s brain
As the ways of Nature it would seem beyond us to explain.
As I approach their fish tank they swim away in fear
From their water world enclosed in glass a giant I must appear
Sensitive to human presence and quite sensitive to noise
What do the world look like when seen through a fish’s eyes?
Just a ten second memory span believe that if you may
They are dim witted creatures the so called well informed say
But of the mysteries of Nature humans will never be aware
For Nature guards her secrets and her secrets she won’t share
From end to end of their small world they swim all night and day
Far from the rivers and the streams and safe from bigger fish of prey,
Dim witted creatures we are told by those who profess to know
Still the mystery of Nature is a mystery that grow.
