Of the people and the places you once knew
They will live and they will die with you.
Countryman you’ve had more than your share
Of boredom from living in the man built town
And now you yearn for breath of country air
And the sweet scent of the peaty bogland brown.
You memorize the pleasant twittering notes
Of wild born birds the rural feathered poets
And that country loving homesick mind can hear
The skylark carolling in the Spring of year.
You miss the green woods and the heather hills
The murmuring rivers and the rippling rills
And your thoughts oft times return to Summer hours
And green fields decked with beautiful wild flowers.
Here in the noisy town you feel alone
And you miss your neighbours and your friends back home,
You miss the country and your country kin
The urban life’s not meant for rustic men.
You find it hard so hard to settle down
To living life in air polluted town
Dust taints the air and smoke pollute the skies,
Traffic noise cause ear ache and smoke hurt the eyes.
Makes no difference where your wandering take you to
To New York, Tokyo or Timbuctoo,
To London, Paris, Melbourne or Rome
You will find out that there is no place like home.
