And the wild birds chirped and whistled on the bushes and the trees
On a near to perfect sunday with the slightest freshening breeze.
On the rank grass by the river it seemed quite the perfect place
For an hour or two of passion for to make love and embrace
Off of the pathway through the woodland an ideal spot they had found
By the trees along by the river not another soul around.
It was there her son was conceived in a moment of sheer bliss
She was young in love and happy and things don’t get better than this
And the blackbird he was whistling and the lark sang in the sky
And the trout splashed in the river as he jumped to catch the fly.
Young in love and only nineteen this her happiest ever day
This for her a special memory that with her is bound to stay
But true love can cause much heartache after joy there can be pain
And the years have eased the sorrow but the memories remain
Of the young man she loved truly with blue eyes and raven hair
He was young and strong and noble and he did not mind a dare
And he loved his young blond sweetheart to him none so fine as she
And they planned a life together but it wasn’t meant to be.
She had loved once and loved deeply over thirty years ago
And without his natural father her son to a man did grow
But she will live with the memory of her young and handsome man
Who was brought home in a coffin from the jungles of Vietnam
