It is their breeding Season and night and day they sing
And those who know of Nature say birdsong is a territorial thing,
The night is calm and the freshening breeze has a touch of Winter chill
And the magpies songs are echoing in the quiet Village by the hill
So beautiful and flute like in their songs their message clear
You magpie who sings nearby my borderline is here
When at night in the quiet old Village the magpies songs one hear
One can sense that Spring is on it’s way to the Southern Hemisphere
They will have young for to feed before the birth of Spring
And more time spent on parental duties means far less time to sing,
The moonless sky is starry and i hear a watchdog bark
And the magpies they are singing in the quiet Village park.
