and all the DJ wanted to play
were songs about dying and lying,
broken hearts and sadness.
He never played a song
about the joys of being alive.
Just rolled out the carpet of tears
to tantalize our ears.
Whether it was me
or the music he played,
but all I could see
were the tragedies in my life.
The songs were depressing me
and in the end, I’d had enough,
reaching over I turned the damn thing off.
I wanted cheering up,
not into a depression fall,
so why can’t they play happy songs,
not ones with buckets of tears.
Is it possible the songwriters
look around and sadness
is all they see,
so they write about it
to show us all
how miserable we are?
