In the gray morning sky and singing as he fly
His song still in my heart will be with me till I die.
Some fifty years ago and to Nature’s ways quite green
And I recall today the beauty I have seen
And I recall today the skylark carolling
Sweet music it did flow from such a tiny living thing.
In the heart of every man there is a little boy
And at happy memories of the past he laughs aloud in joy
He laughs aloud in joy at happy memories of the past
The memories remain though little else does last.
Those ancient Boggeragh hills I see them in my dreams
And I hear the dippers sing in the rivers and the streams
And the memories remain but that was years ago
And old Caherbarnagh since has wore many hats of snow.
The descendants of the lark sing o’er the field today
And the boy now an ageing man and his hair is silver gray
And the Seasons come and go but the memories remain
And the skylark o’er the field I hear carolling again.
