Francis Borgia,
held a skull
in his hand
and spent
a life in meditation
and action.
He was one of the
men of his time.
He saw the decomposing
remains of the Empress
Isabella, and was shaken
to his core and bones.
Then he determined
to serve God alone
rather than earthly,
temporary, fading
passing authorities.
It may be gleaned
in our time of
and isolation too.
Cling to Christ,
God’s extended
hand from eternity
into our era of time.
‘Only one life,
it will soon be past.
Only what is done
for Christ will last.’
(From an old poem
of an anonymous author) .
